Course Summary

This six-credit continuing legal education course will provide lawyers in an insurance defense practice with knowledge of insurance operations and keys to successful representation of insurance companies and their insureds. Each lawyer will gain confidence in identifying important information in an insurance policy The lawyer will also obtain an inside glimpse at common insurance company practices that will enhance their ability to meet client needs.

Lawyers who complete this course will need less instruction and guidance in basic insurance matters from other associates and partners in the firm. These lawyers will also be armed with tools to build strong relationships with insurance clients.

Learning Objectives

Learn the basic operational structure of insurance companies
Explore the reasons for common insurance company reporting and billing requirements
Learn to read and understand the terms of an insurance policy and its declaration pages
Understand the key ethical issues for insurance defense lawyers
Develop skills and practices to work effectively with insurance company clients

This program has been approved as follows:

Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee : 6.0, including 1.0 ethics

Ohio: 6.0, including 1.0 attorney professional conduct

West Virginia: 7.2 hours, including 1.2 ethics credit.

With the exception of Kentucky attorneys, please include your license number for the respective state you need your CLE reported. Kentucky attorneys will be provided with an Activity Number during the program and will need to post their credits with the KBA.
